Spanning over 20 years and three different relationships, every scene is a little war between a man and a woman, both fighting for their best version of security.
MTC’s New Play Reading Series offers exciting script-in-hand readings of new plays by emerging playwrights. Readings are followed by a talk-back with the playwright, director and actors.
This developmental workshop was supported by a grant from the National New Play Network's Smith Prize, which commissioned The Ironbound.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Martyna Majok makes her MTC debut with The Ironbound (New Play Reading Series). She was born in Bytom, Poland, and raised in New Jersey and Chicago. Her plays include Mouse in a Jar at Red Tape Theatre in Chicago at the LIDA Project in Denver; the friendship of her thighs, which won the Jane Chambers Student Feminist Playwriting Prize and received workshops at the claque in New York, the Playwright and Director Center of Moscow and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Theater in Washington, D.C.; Petty Harbour, which was a finalist for the 2012 Princess Grace Award in Playwriting and has been featured at Vassar/NYSAF’s Powerhouse Festival and NYC Readings Series; reWilding at Yale Cabaret in New Haven, Connecticut, and Satori Group in Seattle; and The Woman at the Well as part of the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival at HERE Arts Center in New York City. Majok has been awarded the 2013 Smith Prize Commission, the Merage Fellowship for the American Dream, the Olga and Paul Menn Award in Playwriting, a Ragdale residency, the Howard Stein Scholarship for Playwriting, a commission from Walkabout Theatre, and publication of her short play After Hours Stan by Smith & Kraus. Other projects include Prypiat, a musical about modern day re-settlers to the area of Chernobyl, the film Remy and an animated short. Majok was the 2012-2013 NNPN playwright-in-residence and teaching artist at New Jersey Repertory Company. She is a proud member of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Obie Award winning group, Youngblood. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago and an MFA in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama. She has taught playwriting at Wesleyan, the New Haven Co-Op High School and New Jersey Repertory Company, in addition to assisting a class taught by her mentor Paula Vogel at Yale.
