Should children vote? Political Puppetry!

What would happen if children had the right to vote? What ages would be best to vote? Would they build a capitol out of candy or would we finally offer universal healthcare?

In this layered exploration of young suffrage, your students will learn about the rich history of political puppetry before creating original characters from the depths of their imaginations, turning those characters into puppets using recycled materials, then writing and performing skits depicting a world in which children can vote!

Exploring and Making Docu-Theatre!
(Grade Level 7 - High School)

Using real life as the building blocks for creating theater, students will create original works based on the development of a research topic of their choice. We will employ Verbatim theatre, Documentary theatre and Playback theatre ideologies to develop an original script based on interviews conducted. We will use the tools of editing, story structure, narrative, and character development to break down the barriers between theatre and journalism. Your students will learn new ways to tell stories that matter. We will also collaboratively explore the history of these Theatre practices and some of the great producers of Docu-Theatre work in the US and beyond.
